You’re Invited: AI for Social Good—Hear from Dr. Ruopeng An and Dean Michael A. Lindsey
Join us in celebrating the 10th cohort of the NYU Silver MSW Program at Shanghai and New York! Hosted by Program Coordinator and Professor Qingwen Xu, we will hear from Dean Michael A. Lindsey and Constance and Martin Silver Endowed Professor in Data Science and Prevention Dr. Ruopeng An. A reception will follow immediately after.
In this engaging talk, Dr. Ruopeng An will showcase several groundbreaking AI projects that his team has developed to address pressing societal challenges. These projects include using AI to combat COVID-19 disinformation on social media, improving precision nutrition with computer vision models, tracking public sentiment on soda taxes and menu labeling laws, and autocorrecting exaggerated health research headlines. Dr. An’s team has also built AI models to accurately predict obesity prevalence by adjusting self-reported data and created AI tools to detect ChatGPT-generated text in student homework. Additionally, they have developed AI-powered web applications to help social workers improve communication skills through real-time simulations.
This talk will explore how AI can be harnessed for social good, solving real-world problems and making a meaningful impact. Opening remarks will be provided by NYU Silver School of Social Work Dean Michael A. Lindsay with an introduction from Mingwei Ma, a current first-year Shanghai MSW student.
Alumni from all NYU schools are invited. Alumni can bring 1 guest.
